Vintage rug from 1940s, originating in Northern Afganistan or Turkmenestan. Made using natural dyes the design consists of repeating Gul medallions, a hallmark of Ensari Turkoman rugs. The gul medallions symbolic of the specific tribe from which this would have originated.
Due to the nature of the dyes used, these rugs are typically darker in colour, the base being woven from hand spun wool and the finish being the of terracotta and black in appearance.
Afghan Ersari — tribal, grounded, and timeless, with guls that echo generations of nomadic tradition.
