Pair of 1970s Modernist Swivel Lounge Chairs — Imported by Myer, Melbourne

A sculptural pair of 1980s lounge chairs retailed by Myer’s Lonsdale Street flagship store during the height of Australia’s modern design era. Imported from Europe and assembled locally, these generous swivel chairs feature deep black leather upholstery, down-filled cushioning and a tulip pedestal base — the very definition of late-modern comfort.
Their relaxed profile and enveloping form echo the lines of Yrjö Kukkapuro’s Karuselli and de Sede’s DS-50, yet with a distinctly Australian provenance thanks to Myer’s European Imports program of the period.
