Bring warmth, texture and authentic mid-century character to your space with this beautiful vintage Don Freedman wall hanging, featuring three sculptural birds in flight. Crafted in the 1960s–1970s, it combines woven natural fibres with raised tufted wool, creating a richly layered relief effect that feels both organic and architectural.

The soft ivory birds lift from what was originally a dark violet blue background that has now faded to a deep brown ground, catching light and shadow throughout the day — a signature look of Don Freedman’s iconic textile work. Although this example is unsigned, identical signed versions of this design are documented, supporting a confident attribution.

Perfect for styling above a sofa, sideboard, bed or entryway, this piece adds instant warmth to interiors — from mid-century modern and bohemian, to contemporary spaces needing texture and soul.

About Don Freedman

Don Freedman (American, b. 1930) became one of the most recognisable fibre artists of the mid-20th century. His studio produced hand-crafted wall hangings that blended art, design and craft — often using natural materials such as jute, wool, sisal and wood. His pieces were sold through quality design stores across the US and internationally, and today they are highly sought-after by collectors of mid-century textile art and vintage fibre wall decor.
