A beautifully executed, custom-made raised sideboard crafted in Europe from solid cherry wood, combining refined provincial detailing with a clean, architectural profile. Elevated on elegant, tapered legs, this piece offers the visual lightness of a console with the functionality of a dresser or open shelving unit.
Designed by Jean-Christophe Burckhardt and completed in 1997, the sideboard was made as a bespoke commission and bears its original maker’s certificate, documenting the designer, cabinetmakers, carver, finisher, date, and materials. This level of provenance is rare and speaks to the integrity and craftsmanship of the piece.
The upper section features generous open shelving, ideal for books, ceramics, or decorative objects, while the lower portion includes two drawers fitted with decorative metal pulls, offering discreet storage. The warm cherry timber displays beautiful colour depth and grain variation throughout, enhanced by careful finishing and traditional joinery.
While rooted in French provincial tradition, the restrained lines and raised form allow this piece to sit comfortably in both classic and contemporary interiors—working equally well as a dining room dresser, living room statement piece, or refined home office storage.
An exceptional example of late 20th-century European craftsmanship, made without compromise and intended to endure for generations.
