Description

A beautifully proportioned mid-century extension dining table, attributed to Paul Kafka, one of Australia’s most celebrated post-war cabinetmakers. Kafka’s work was characterised by refined lines, impeccable joinery, and a modernist sensitivity that drew from his European training.

This example features a slim rectangular profile, resting on elegant tapered legs — a restrained yet sophisticated expression of Australian modernism. The extendable top reveals an additional central leaf, allowing the table to comfortably seat six to eight guests.

The surface has been professionally refinished, restoring its warm golden teak tone and satin sheen. There is, however, a small swollen area with associated surface damage visible on the centre leaf — the result of historical moisture exposure. The fault is stable, discreet in use, and reflected in the price.

A timeless piece of Australian design, offering both form and function — ideal paired with Kafka’s matching dining chairs in coral velvet (listed separately).
