Black Leather
A beautifully resolved piece of late 20th century Swiss design.
This 1980s lounge suite by Hans Kaufield for De Sede, a brand renowned for producing the world’s best lounges, captures the brand’s signature balance of strength and refinement — combining architectural presence with exceptional comfort.
Design
What immediately sets this lounge apart is its remarkable sense of visual lightness.
The seating appears to float effortlessly between the structural side panels, creating an elegant suspended effect. Rather than sitting heavily on the floor, the body of the sofa is subtly lifted — introducing shadow and air beneath it.
This creates a compelling balance between:
• Structure
• Softness
• Weightlessness
The result is a lounge that feels grounded yet visually light — bringing presence without bulk.
Wide architectural arms frame the seating while the gathered leather cushions soften the form, ensuring the piece remains inviting as well as sculptural.
Materials & Construction
This sense of lift is made possible by De Sede’s engineering.
Internally, the suite is built around a steel support frame, providing strength across the span of the seating and allowing it to bridge between the upholstered side panels without sagging over time.
Upholstered in premium black leather, the suite reflects De Sede’s global reputation for producing some of the finest leather furniture in the world.
Designed to age beautifully and develop character over time.
Condition
Presented in excellent condition.
