Size: 3.2 × 2.45 metres
A magnificent handwoven Chinese rug in the classic Peking blue palette, featuring two imperial five-clawed dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl — an ancient symbol of wisdom, prosperity, and power.
Woven in fine wool with a deeply lustrous pile, the rug displays the unmistakable artistry of early to mid-20th century Chinese weaving. The design is centred within a medallion framed by a meander border, with auspicious emblems and stylised clouds rendered in gold, ivory, and jade tones against a rich indigo ground.
This style of rug emerged from Beijing workshops in the 1920s–1940s, a period when traditional Chinese motifs were reinterpreted for Western interiors. The distinctive Peking palette and high relief carving give this example both sculptural depth and luxurious texture.
Perfect as a statement piece in a living or dining room, or under a feature table where its artistry can be fully appreciated.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with soft even pile, clean fringe, and minimal age-related wear. Professionally cleaned and ready to place.
