A rare and exquisitely balanced Carl Malmsten dining suite that embodies the essence of Sweden’s Swedish Grace period — where Art Nouveau craftsmanship met early modern restraint.
The suite includes a perfectly proportioned oval extension dining table (c.1910) and four matching chairs (c.1930), all beautifully crafted from richly figured birch with Birds Eye maple veneer. The table features two original extension leaves, and when installed or removed, the veneer grain aligns seamlessly across every panel — a testament to the precision and artistry of early 20th-century Swedish cabinetmakers.
Under shifting light, the timber reveals a beautiful chatoyance - a subtle, silky shimmer that gives the surface extraordinary depth and life.
The chairs, with their elegantly curved backs and tapering legs, capture Malmsten’s belief that furniture should be both humble and harmonious. Together, they offer sophisticated warmth, refinement, and functionality — timeless hallmarks of Scandinavian design.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with light patina consistent with age.
The chairs whilst in excellent structural condition do require new upholstery. Please reach out for a quote to have that done by our marvellous in house upholsterer.
