Late 19th to Early 20th Century | Canton or Shanghai Origin
A richly carved Chinese export chest of drawers, crafted in solid camphor wood and dating to the late Qing Dynasty circa 1890. This exceptional piece features deep relief carving across every surface—depicting heroic figures on horseback, tranquil scholars in landscapes, and traditional architecture framed by bridges, pavilions, and pine-studded mountains.
The top panel showcases a dramatic battle scene, likely inspired by classical Chinese literature such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, while the drawer fronts are adorned with layered village vignettes and decorative floral borders. The craftsmanship is intricate and evocative, offering depth, motion, and storytelling in every panel.
All four drawers run smoothly and are well aligned, with a working lock and included key. The chest sits on traditional carved bracket feet and remains structurally sound, with a warm aged patina consistent with its age.
This is a striking and functional heirloom piece—ideal for lovers of Chinoiserie, eclectic interiors, or fine Asian export furniture.
