We are offering these chairs as a set of 8. Please reach out for should you wish to purchase them separately.
A superb set of eight original Chiswell dining chairs, Australian made in the 1970s. Beautifully crafted in solid teak, these chairs retain their original turquoise and yellow striped velvet upholstery – a striking period fabric that perfectly complements the rich warmth of the timber, and lends itself to changing colour depending on the direction from which you are viewing them. Chiswell became one of Australia’s best-known mid-century furniture makers, renowned for its quality craftsmanship and timeless Danish-inspired designs.
This set is in exceptional original condition. The upholstery is remarkably well preserved with vibrant colour, no tears or significant wear, while the timber frames are tight, sturdy and beautifully presented. It is increasingly uncommon to find a complete set of eight with their original fabric in such immaculate condition.
The chairs feature elegant tapered frames, gently sculpted backs and a comfortable, supportive profile that makes them ideal for everyday dining and feature their original factory stain, which presents them as a dark teak but not as dark as walnut
A rare opportunity to acquire a complete suite of original Chiswell dining chairs that capture the quality and character of Australian mid-century design.
