Petrified wood, the result of slow decaying timber felled into muddy waters, causes timber cells to be replaced with minerals, replacing timber cell walls and turning timber into fossilised stone. This particular sculpture was purchased over 11 years ago in Indonesia at the very start of Two girls and a Container and comes from my personal collection. I was drawn to this sculpture because of the movement conveyed in the shape of the fish and the curve of the tail, carved in a realistic manner and bringing the ancient petrified wood to life. The sculptor, utilising the medium of ancient petrified wood, has created a piece worthy of anyone with a love of art and design. 60 cm long x 28 cm high. Estimated weight between 10 and 15 kg.
