Amazing 6 panel black lacquer and hand carved semi precious stone coromandel screen. Each panel is divided into 3 recessed panels and features a multitude of scholarly items as well as intricately carved flowers. Semi precious stones include but are not limited to soapstone, jade, lapis and quartz. Reverse side is more simply decorated with red and gold decoration and each panel has hand made hooks that allow each panel to be linked to the other. This provides some flexibility with regard to the composition. Extremely heavy and quite an extraordinary item. Estimated age early 20th Century.
